The Australian alcohol, which launches on Thursday, will initially only be available Down Under.

Varieties are thought to include Back in Black Shiraz, Highway to Hell Cabernet Sauvignon and You Shook Me All Night Long Moscato.

The Warburn Estate winery is the brains behind the beverage, which will be made from grapes from the in the Barossa and Coonawarra regions of Australia.

The wine will be on sale in Australian chains Dan Murphy’s, BWS and Woolworths Liquor stores.

“We wanted to make sure that AC/DC’s hometown fan base could have easy access to their rock icons’ wines,” said Steve Donohue, general manager of buying for the Woolworths Liquor Group.

“For us it was a no-brainer to make it available nationally, no one misses out.

“This is a worldwide phenomena and a first in the marketplace.”

The news could be taken in bad taste by some as the band’s original front man, Bon Scott, died of acute alcohol poisoning following a drinking session in London.

Scott died in February 1980 aged 33, just months after recording the band’s classic Highway to Hell album.

The band, which also features Glasgow-born brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, replaced him with Brian Johnson of the band Geordie.

Their comeback album, Back in Black, became one of the biggest selling albums in history.

The band finished their two-year Black Ice World Tour last year and are planning a 40th anniversary tour in 2013, with a new album out in time for the tour.

Last week it was announced that the Australian government was funding a film based on the life of Bon Scott.

Fans have speculated who will play the man himself, with Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and even Russell Brand among the suggestions.

Five-year-old Springer Spaniel Mitch and seven-year-old collie Jay are specially trained to sniff out chemical accelerants used to start fires and have been working with Central Scotland Fire and Rescue for the last few years.

Along with their handler Trevor Lynch, they form the only fire-service owned canine investigation team in Scotland.

The dogs help to significantly reduce the time and money spent on investigating deliberate fires.

In 2008 the body of 29-year-old James Taylor was found badly burned in woods in Motherwell. Evidence discovered by the dogs helped prove that he had been killed where his body had been found rather than being dumped afterwards.

Trevor said: “Someone had been seriously assaulted by having flammable liquid poured over them.

“The forensic scientists were looking to see if the assault had taken place where the victim was found or elsewhere in the area.

“The dogs quickly indicated to a liquid at the spot where the body was found and scientists were able to dig down around a metre and extract a large quantity of accelerant from the soil and undergrowth which proved the assault had taken place at that spot.”

Establishing where the murder had taken place prevented the need for a sweep of the entire forest, an exercise which would have taken the investigation longer to complete and required a lot of manpower.

Following a joint investigation involving the fire service, police and forensic scientists, Stuart McKelvie was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2009 for the murder.

The evidence the dogs find is inadmissible in court and samples have to go to a forensic lab in Edinburgh or Dundee to be verified but the work the dogs do speeds up the process of detecting wilful fires.

“A dog’s sense of smell is more sensitive than a human being,” continued Trevor.

“Having the dogs means accelerant may be detected quicker. As a result they don’t need to take as many samples for the forensic scientists.

“Also, the dogs are small and nimble and can therefore gain access to areas where fire personnel can’t.

However not every fire he attends is deliberate. The dog team is brought in if a fire investigator thinks a fire may be suspicious but cannot see any immediate cause for the fire.

He continued: “They have a success rate of more or less 100%, every fire that’s investigated; if there are accelerants there the dogs will find it.

“There have been a number of cases where the dogs have been brought in and not found anything. That doesn’t mean that the fire wasn’t wilful, just that there was no accelerant used.”

Trevor got the idea from English services, which have been using dog units since 1996. The idea originally came from America.

“There was research done in the US on whether dogs could be conditioned to detect accelerants, said Trevor.

“This was done after seeing what the police had done in training dogs to search for drugs.”

He estimates there are now more than 200 accelerant dogs in America.

Amazingly the dogs can tell the difference between liquids deliberately placed to start a fire and the oils produced by man-made materials when they burn.

“When man made products burn they produce hydrocarbon gases,” explained Trevor.

“The dogs are trained to search for signature smells, they are not trained to find hydrocarbons, they are trained on the source liquids.”

The dogs are even more important as arsonists are continually trying to outwit the fire investigation teams.

Trevor said: “The people that do this are always looking for ways to try and trick us.”

“We once went out to Livingston where a chip shop roof had been on fire.

“At first it just looked like a normal chip shop fire, because they do happen, but a closer look revealed the roof tiles had been stripped off, a hole cut into the roof and accelerants had been poured in.

“We also searched the surrounding area and found gloves abandoned by the person who had started the fire, as well as a lighter.”

Trevor has so far attended around eight incidents this year, including a hotel fire in Tranent, East Lothian and a nightclub fire in Livingston.

Jay’s other role is in community education. “We go and do fire investigation talks and show the kids the benefits of us having the dogs,” said Trevor.

“We go to schools and youth groups and tell the children that the dogs can find matches and lighters. We put them down beside a child and get the dog to find it to show them what the dogs can do.”

As statistics show that 49% of deliberate fires are started by 11 to 16-year-olds and the aim is to reduce this number by showing children the role dogs play in fire detection.

The dogs are unusual because both started off as family pets.

Jay was Trevor’s own family pet and was and originally going to be trained him as a search and rescue dog, to find people lost on the hills.

However, following a change in government legislation which required the police, fire service and forensic teams to work together to increase the detection rate of malicious fires, Trevor decided to ask his boss if Jay could be trained to detect accelerants instead.

Mitch proved to be too much of a handful for his original owners who were unable to cope with his boisterous and excitable nature, and gave him up when he was just four months old. He was initially offered to Central Scotland Police, before finding a home with the fire service.

Outside of work the dogs are still treated as pets, though Trevor doesn’t allow them any treats to prevent them picking up food from the floors of burnt out buildings.

“The dogs are pets as well so when they are not working they do what normal pets do, except that they train twice a week.

“That’s why they are so unusual because they are just normal pets until their harness is put on; that’s the trigger for them to work and they know they’ll get their ball if they work hard.

“They have a life of luxury until they are needed but if they see me in my overalls they start to get quite excited.

“The dogs love their job – or they wouldn’t do it, that’s the bottom line.”

In 2008/2009 there were more than 13 thousand fires in Scotland, of which 4572 were deliberate.

The 20-year-old man was left with horrific head injuries after he was attacked at the Royal Edinburgh in Morningside.

Police are treating the incident as attempted murder and have arrested a 24-year-old and detained him under the Mental Health Act. His victim remains unconscious in hospital.

A source described the scene as “like a car accident and claimed staffing problems meant the ward was not being properly monitored.

NHS Lothian insisted “appropriate staffing levels” were in place at the time of the incident on Friday night.

A source at the hospital said staff had been investigating loud thumping noises coming from a room in the Meadows Ward – an acute psychiatric unit – when they stumbled on the assault.

“It was like a car accident, it was horrific,” They said.

“There was a large man just jumping on the head of a very small man and that was the noise that could be heard.

“it was a bloodbath. I’ve heard the victim was an informal patient who checked himself in for treatment and was there to get help as a place of safety.

“i understand his attacker has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

“i don’t know if he flipped or if the other man said something or looked at him the wrong way but it was loud crunching noises coming from one of the floors that could be heard elsewhere in the building.”

The source said morale at the hospital was at an “all-time low” because it was being run by a skeleton staff working long hours and burdened with excessive paperwork.

They said: “The hospital is bursting atthe seams. We are there to care for people but they cannot do it like it is.

“It is nearly impossible with the amount of paperwork that has to be done and it feels like the patients are taking over the asylum.”

Health bosses confirmed “an incident” had taken place but refused to comment further because of the ongoing police investigation.

NHS Lothian nurse director Melanie Hornett dismissed claims staff were at full stretch.

She said: “Appropriate staffing levels were in place in the ward at the time of the incident.

“We have an active alarm system which activated, alerting staff in the ward and surrounding wards to respond.

“A range of support is available to any staff affected.”

A police spokesman said: “A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with a serious assault that happened in the Royal Edinburgh hospital on Friday, April 1. He has been detained under the Mental Health Act.”

The terrified moggies were dumped inside a black bin bag which was handed in to the charity’s branch in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh, where they lay undiscovered for two days.

The cats, since named Whiskers and Paws, are now in the care of Lothian Cat Rescue after being discovered by store manager Sean O’Brien.

Mr O’Brien, 46, believed the bags to contain the usual donations of bric-a-brac or clothes and was shocked to find the cats peering back at him from inside a cat carrier.

It is believed the bag was handed in by a middle-aged woman on a busy Saturday afternoon last month.

Mr O’Brien said:” I have worked for the charity for 16 years and I have never seen anything like this. Initially thought they had been sedated as they didn’t make a sound.

“The poor things were so petrified they couldn’t eat anything, but they didn’t mind being handled, were friendly and lovely to look at.

“A lady came in off the street and handed in a large bag and just said ‘that’s a donation for you’ and went away.

“She didn’t say what it was or anything; she didn’t say there were a couple of cats in there – she just disappeared.

“The assistant manager put them into the hallway, off the shop floor because it was busy.

“It was only when I came in on the Monday at about half 12 when I went to sort out what was in the bag. You can imagine the fright I got when I saw two cats staring back at me.”

Mr O’Brien contacted a colleague at Capability Scotland’s Morningside branch, Diana Caryl, who volunteers at Lothian Cat Rescue and arranged for the cats to be taken to their shelter.

Lothian Cat Rescue’s Jacci Edwards said: “That lady must have thought the cats would be discovered straight away but sometimes bags of stuff can be left for a week before they are looked through, so they have had a lucky escape.”

Mr O’Brien added: “I would like this woman to be identified because I think it’s a very stupid thing to do. The delivery of stock we got on Monday could have been put on top of them and might have suffocated them, or they could have died of starvation.

“I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a mistake – you can’t get rid of two cats by accident.

“We get some strange things donated but never live animals until now.”

The woman who donated the cats is thought to be in her 40s. There was no cat food inside the bag but there was a blanket.

The biggest problem in the city’s schools is mice, closely followed by ants and wasps.

Other infestations over the past three years include hide beetles, fleas, gulls, bees, squirrels, silverfish, snails, cockroaches and flies.

In total, extermination teams were called out 625 times over the three year period, equating to roughly one visit for every day of term.

The worst affected school was Tynecastle High which hosted pest control teams 44 times for a variety of problems including ants, wasps, mice, rats and fleas.

Holyrood High, which sits just a mile and a half from the Scottish Parliament, was also badly affected requiring 23 call-outs to deal with ants, mice and wasps.

Schools are expected to pay for the call-outs from their own budgets.

Tracy Rendall, chair of the parent council at Craigentinny Primary – which received 17 visits – said schools should be given extra money based on the unique challenges facing each one.

She said: “The council could help with budgets by allocating more money to deal with each school as an individual school.

“For example, if there are issues which arise because of the age of a building, or the location then money should be allocated which is relevant to those things.”

A council spokesman said: “As with any big buildings, especially the older ones, from time to time there are pest problems in schools.

“When these arise they are dealt with swiftly and appropriately.”

The 53 year old male collided with a transit-style vehicle at around 10.40 this morning (fri).

The accident happened at the junction of Gray’s Loan and Ashley Terrace in Edinburgh.

The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary suffering from a broken arm and broken ribs.

Ambulance crews said the vehicles had collided at a speed of 45mph.

A spokesman from Lothian and Borders Police said: “We were called at 10.40am to a collision between a motorcycle and a transit van.

“The male casualty suffered a broken arm and was conveyed by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”

Fire crews also attended the scene to clean up petrol which spilled from the bike following the accident.

Margaret Richmond, 55, is accused of abusing five patients, aged between 74 and 88 years, in her care at Westlea Care Home in Renfrewshire between 2007 and 2008.

It’s alleged that in October 2007  Richmond took the hand of an elderly patient, which was covered in faecal matter and showed it to her, saying “Yes, that’s shite, s-h-i-t-e”.

Richmond is also accused of telling the patient “You are all covered in shit” on two separate occasions.

Richmond is also accused of hitting and pushing several other patients at the care home.

On one occasion where it is alleged she left a drugs trolley unattended, a patient took some medicines.

After the pills had been taken back by other staff members Richmond is alleged to have pushed the patient back into her room, telling her “leave my fucking trolley alone”.

Another patient was repeatedly targeted by Richmond. It is alleged that the woman was pushed into her room by Richmond while on other occasions she was brought into the lounge despite saying she wanted to go to bed.

Richmond is also accused of causing the patient distress by moving her too quickly and roughly.

Other charges against the nurse accuse her of calling one patient a “crabbit old swine” and telling another member of staff that bloody [Resident F] has pissed the bed – I need sheets”.

Last year at Paisley Sheriff court Richmond, who has 22 years experience in nursing, admitted slapping Mary Hamill, 86, across the face and tweaking the ears of 88-year-old Peggy Bakels to keep her awake.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council will hear that after slapping Mary Hamill, Richmond told her “If you can’t sleep in your room, you’re not sleeping here”.

They will also hear evidence that she repeatedly kept Peggy Bakels awake until staff rounds were carried out at 3am.

Richmond is also said to have hit Peggy over the head with a newspaper, telling her “you are not sleeping just now”.

At her trial in February last year, Richmond was labeled “a disgrace to the profession” by Sheriff Neil Douglas, who sentenced her to community service.

He said: “In my view this is a deliberate and despicable cruelty to these vulnerable people and a disgrace to the nursing profession. Clearly custody is uppermost in my mind. You crossed the line, but you have pled guilty to the charges. The charges of assault against you are at the lower end of the scale therefore I will sentence you to 240 hours community service”

He added: “It is hard to see how someone could carry out such a deliberate and despicable assault on a person who they are meant to be caring for. If it is such a difficult job she shouldn’t have been doing it.”

Richmond will face a hearing at the Nursing and Midwifery Council later this month.

JOHN Cleese has used Twitter to turn the tables on a paparazzo who photographed him outside his home.

The Monty Python comedian sent a message to his 1.3 million followers asking them to help identify the snapper.

He posted two pictures taken by his assistant Garry Scott-Irvine of the man apparently sitting on a moped outside his home.

He also complained that the man had taken a note of his address.

Cleese accused the man of following him home...

While many of his followers retweeted the message or gave words of advice, others were unimpressed at his attitude following riots across the country.

At around 12.40 today (Tues) Cleese tweeted: “Darling Twits, you can help me with a quick experiment… Some Paparazzo guy caught me this morning, followed me home…”

Eight minutes later he wrote: “not content with snapping me he wrote down my address (no doubt to sell)… Does anyone recognise the guy?” before posting a picture of the man on his Manchester registered scooter.

He also posted another picture, thought to have been taken near his London home, of the man drinking coffee.

Minutes later his assistant posted another photo of the man avoiding the camera.

The images sparked uproar from some of his followers, many accusing him of being insensitive to tensions in London.

...then took photos of him.

James Vine replied to the 71 year old actor, saying: “You think this matters, today of all days? Peoples’ homes have been destroyed and all you care about is having your pic taken”

Jimmy Ewan went missing from the Celebrity Century cruise liner in 2006

A MAN who went missing from a cruise ship five years ago has been traced – to a pauper’s grave in Portugal.

Jimmy Ewan was deemed “lost at sea” after vanishing from a trans-atlantic voyage.

Friends of the 73-year-old gave up hope of finding him alive and held a memorial service for him in his hometown of Burntisland in Fife.

But it’s now been discovered that his body was washed up on a beach in the Portuguese town of Faro in 2008 and buried in a pauper’s grave.

His friend John Cooper now plans to mark the grave in the Cemiterio de Faro with a headstone.

“We know where he’s buried and know what plot he’s in, so we know where he is,” Mr Cooper said.

“They planted him before I had the chance to say I wanted him cremated and his ashes sent home so they could be scattered here in Burntisland  — but we don’t want to get him uplifted and go through all that trouble.

“Whenever we go over to Portugal we will put a stone on it and leave him where he is. He liked to travel the world and he will be alright where he is.”

Mr Ewan was reported missing in November 2006, two days after boarding the Miami-bound Celebrity Century cruise liner in Barcelona.

The alarm was raised by crew who realised his cabin had not been used.

The captain retraced the ship’s route in the hope of finding Mr Ewan but was unsuccessful.

His belongings were laid out neatly on his bed and just prior to the trip he had scrapped his beloved car, a move which friends said was out of character.

Mr Ewan’s wife Betty had died two decades earlier and the couple had no children.

Mr Cooper said his friend had once joked that he wanted to “blitz his credit cards to the absolute limit and then jump off a boat.”

Mr Ewan had also talked about not wanting to burden anyone in his old age and had tidied up his affairs before his death.

Despite the discovery of Mr Ewan’s final resting place, he has still to have a death certificate issued.

Lawyers have contacted the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Portuguese Consulate to no avail and without the document Mr Cooper is unable to execute Mr Ewan’s will.

“My solicitor is on the case and written to everybody and his grandma but I still can’t get any joy,” Mr Cooper said.

“The irony of it all is that Jimmy thought it would be the simplest way out, yet it’s caused all this trouble and consternation.”

Mr Ewan’s 67-year-old cousin Neil said he was unaware of the grave in Portugal and had hoped for a happier ending.

He said, “Whatever I think, the book should be closed.”

CALLOUS rioters went to the aid of an injured man – only to rob him seconds later.

The unidentified man was filmed sitting in a pool of blood, clutching his head when he was seemingly approached by a good Samaritan.

A young black man appears to help the man to his feet and supports him as he staggers a few yards.

Meanwhile another man unzips the victim’s rucksack.

The victim notices the sneak theft and tries to fend the mob off but they make off with the contents of his bag.

...before robbing him.

The group are seen walking down the street and throwing the stolen items away when they decide they are worthless.

The victim is then seen watching helplessly from the other side of the road.

The shocking footage, believed to have been filmed in London, was captured by Abdul Hamid and uploaded to video sharing site Youtube on Monday.

Abdul wrote: “This is evil. A poor lad, obviously in distress, sits bleeding on the ground. He is “helped” up and then robbed. I hope these scumbags are caught”

The footage has provoked outrage on social networking sites, being reposted repeatedly on Facebook and Twitter.
