A Forfar man has been jailed after he drove away from a police station while banned from driving.
Twenty four- year-old Paul George Hosie of Glenclova Terrace was sentenced to five months in prison and disqualified from driving for four years at Forfar Sheriff Court on Thursday (12th).
He had admitted driving while disqualified at West High Street, Dundee Loan and Strathmore Avenue on June 1.
The vehicle had been removed by a friend the previous evening, at the request of Mr Hosie’s partner, with the intention of removing any temptation for him to drive it.
The car was removed to the car park of Forfar police station where at around 6.30am on June 1 an officer witnessed Hosie get in the car and drive away.
Officers pursued him but lost sight of him and his vehicle was later found abandoned nearby.
Sheriff Kevin Veal told Hosie that his offence had particular gravity by the fact he had taken the car from a police station.
Hosie is due to reappear at Forfar Sheriff Court next month on other charges related to driving while disqualified.
